This is an original animation cel, created by Disney artists, and photographed during the making of The Little Mermaid.  In this scene, a magical wave takes King Triton up towards Ariel so that he can embrace her and say goodbye to his newly married, newly human daughter. Image size: Triton 6 in., Ariel 7 in.. The approximate size of the cel is 7 1/2 in X 12 in.. First the animator’s pencil drawings are transferred with a special xerographic transfer process, then it is hand-painted, gouache on celluloid, by the artists of the Walt Disney Studios Ink and Paint department.  This is a matching production two cel set-up applied to a matching watercolor production background of the sky.  First offered for sale by Sotheby’s, the Art of The Little Mermaid, 12/15/90.
